Elder Henry B. Eyring, in his 1998 University Annual Conference address, applauded the efforts of faculty, staff, and administration in Freshman Academy:
"I saw . . . gifted work in the creation and implementation of the Freshman Academy. That proposal received the warmest response I have ever seen in the Board of Trustees. The members there knew what it meant for hundreds of faculty and staff to put aside the old ways of doing things, to put students first, especially the most vulnerable and insecure. The evident appreciation of the Board was not just for what the Academy would mean for the young people you would serve, but what it meant about you and your hearts.
It is rare that so many in a university--staff, faculty, and administrators--would show indeed that they believe, 'for inasmuch as ye do it unto the least of these, ye do it unto me.' The Freshman Academy [is] just [one] example among hundreds of what those here have done which convince me that this university and . . . the Church Educational System are prepared for the adventures ahead."
